The RURACTIVE project addresses the ongoing decline and lack of innovation in many European rural areas.
Rural communities often struggle with aging populations, digital divides, and limited economic opportunities compared to urban centers.
These regions frequently lack the resources and integrated strategies needed to manage transitions in energy, food production, and transportation. Without a unified approach, these areas risk further isolation and economic stagnation.
To tackle these challenges, the project aims to foster a just and sustainable transition through community-led and inclusive solutions.
It establishes local Multi-Actor Rural Innovation Ecosystems across 12 pilot areas, known as Dynamos, in seven EU countries, Switzerland, and two associated nations.
RURACTIVE unlocks the potential of these communities by focusing on six key drivers: multimodal mobility, energy transition, agri-food systems, nature-based solutions, cultural heritage, and digital transformation.
By providing a digital hub and training programs, the project empowers local residents to co-create and implement smart, place-based solutions for long-term resilience.
The RURACTIVE project aims to empower rural communities to lead their own sustainable transitions.
By establishing innovation ecosystems, it helps local areas co-create solutions for energy, mobility, and digitalization.
Almende will focus on developing the Data-Driven Decision Support Tool (DST), which serves as the central digital platform for the RURACTIVE project.
We are building this tool to speed up decision-making in rural planning by providing local communities with actionable, data-driven insights.
Our work enables users to discover innovative solutions, learn from best practices, and analyze how different options fit their specific context.
The platform also facilitates collaboration by allowing multiple stakeholders to share data and ideas for more inclusive planning.
Through this technology, we aim to make rural development smarter and more effective. By simplifying complex planning processes, we help these regions become more resilient and sustainable.
